Mothers and Daughters

Mother and daughter,

standing on the curb waiting to cross,

she holds her daughter’s hand,

the large hand is barely tucked into her mother’s palm.

They walk.

They part.

As her daughter walks away,

the woman takes two steps,

then stops,

glancing back at her daughter,

as a sigh shakes her shoulders,

she turns toward the bus stop.
