Firefly

Sitting quietly as twilight fades into darkness,

a little yellow light

blinks on and off

a joyful reminder of long summer nights

long ago.

  1. We have galaxies of them, twinkleblinking just above the high grass for acres, all the way to the treelines out back, especially active these past few hot nights.

    • Fireflies were a childhood staple growing up in Maryland. I was disappointed not to see more on this trip. We don’t have them in Florida. I heard the pesticides to kill the love bugs killed the lightning bugs, too.
