Standing on line at the grocery store,
you heave a giant sigh.
The weight of the world descends upon your shoulders,
heavy and cumbersome,
like the overloaded plastic bags you clench in your hands.
You scan the sky for storm clouds.
The barometer is dropping
yet the sun continues to shine,
blinding your vision as you wander aimlessly.
Your heart is restless, your head heavy with thoughts of taking off,
for somewhere else, far from here.
The car is on auto-pilot,
taking you back to where you’ve always been.
Soon, you whisper to your soul,
as you put the milk away.
